Errigal Cottage in the little village of Killeigh near Tullamore County Offaly is home to Ginny, her son Jody and her dad Pearse. Three generations of one family living together in a house filled with love, but that just doesn’t function as a practical home.
The cottage, where Ginny grew up with her siblings is no longer the idyllic family home it once was. Still devastated by the loss of her mother Brighidin, whose presence can still be felt in her favourite room, Ginny still feels like a teenager at Errigal Cottage despite the love and support of her dad. The house is cold and cluttered, the layout is chaotic.
In order to give the family the warm and welcoming home they deserve, Dee hatches an ambitious plan to rescue no less than FIVE rooms – two bedrooms, the ‘stuff’ room, a barely functioning toilet and the most important part of the cottage – her mum’s old study room.
To escape the biting cold of winter in the midlands, the clutterbusters take up position at the local GAA club in Killeigh and get started on a huge sorting job. But back at the cleared-out cottage, Peter and the crew discover crumbling plaster and freezing walls that indicate poor insulation, a total absence of ventilation and some missing dry lining!!
And so, what starts as an extensive redesign quickly turns into a complete refit. As Peter and the crew get to work, Ginny is joined at the sorting coalface by her ultra-organized sisters Sarah and Ger – both determined to help Ginny come to terms with the past and move on.
Meanwhile, Dee unveils her grand design for a home gym, bespoke bedrooms for Ginny and Jody and a brand new colour scheme with vibrant fabrics applied to new furniture.
With just five days to reinsulate, rehabilitate and redesign an old cottage that’s seen better days, Dee, Peter and the crew face a seemingly impossible challenge – to create a blueprint for the future without losing precious memories from the past. In short, can they put the heart back into this family home… As time runs out on the most ambitious project to date, it seems Dee, Peter and the team may have bitten off more than they can chew…
