"The 34th" Returns to the Big Screen for Special Screening

October 3, 2017

GAZE International LGBT Film Festival will bring the popular COCO-produced documentary film, The 34th back to the Light House Cinema for a special screening on Wednesday, October 18th.

Originally screened at the 25th annual GAZE International LGBT Film Festival earlier this year, The 34th, tells the story of the driven and dedicated people who formed Marriage Equality. Captivating the festival audience on the night, the documentary proved to be exceptionally popular among attendees, going on to pick up both the Spirit of GAZE and the Audience Awards.

From the KAL (Katherine & Ann Louise) case to a YES vote on 22nd May 2015, The 34th's story spans a decade culminating in the 34th amendment to the Irish constitution, allowing same sex marriage.

Through revealing interviews and archive material, The 34th outlines the strategising, fierce battles, sheer hard graft and personal cost of running such an all-consuming campaign, while documenting the intertwining love story of Katherine Zappone and her late wife, Anne Louise Gilligan.

Due to the film's festival successes, The 34th will be returning to The Light House cinema for a second screening for those who missed the chance to catch it the first time around, or for those who just wish to relive the Marriage Equality story once again.

The special screening will take place on Wednesday, the 18th of October, 2017 and is being organised by GAZE International LGBT Film Festival as part of the GAZE on Tour programme.

Tickets are available online at: https://www.eventbrite.ie/e/the-34th-the-story-of-marriage-equality-tickets-37726364572.

[UPDATE: Tickets for the screening are currently sold out.]
