(Issued 12 October, 2023) As the producers of some of Ireland’s favourite TV shows, we welcome Tuesday’s announcement in Budget 2024 that officials in the Department of Finance will shortly begin engagement with the European Commission on an incentive for the Unscripted Production sector.
Following on from Screen Producers Ireland (SPI) statement welcoming this announcement, as members of SPI who are particularly active in the unscripted sector, we also add our voice in support of this announcement. As our industry goes through a particularly challenging period, with increasing pressure on funding, the development in the near future of a fiscal incentive for unscripted production will support investment and long-term jobs in a key creative industry.
We would like to thank Minister Michael McGrath for this inclusion in Budget 2024 following on from Minister Paschal Donohoe’s announcement of a review of the Unscripted Production sector in Budget 2023. We also thank Minister Catherine Martin for all her work and support of the audio-visual sector.
As trends in this industry move quickly, we need to send a powerful signal to the global market that Ireland is an attractive and world-class destination for international TV production. We welcome the opportunity to work with the Minister and his officials to bring this incentive to life at the earliest possible opportunity.
