First Dates Ireland is coming back for a third series this year, and the team here at COCO Television are looking for background daters to come to the First Dates Ireland restaurant for a very special blind date.
For those that don’t know, background daters are the ones you see in the background of the restaurant while the main daters work their magic. That sounds pretty obvious though, right? Maybe not so much.
As self-explanatory as it sounds, some background daters took exception to the term ‘background’.
Take this character. We set him up on a date with his very own match, and instead he sets his sights on main dater, Maeve, who’s waiting at the bar.

That said, it's not always up to the background daters to decide whether they get involved or not.
This next woman, for example. Her date is gone to the toilet. She’s sitting on her own. The last thing she wants is to be dragged into the little tiff happening at the table beside her.

Luckily for her, it was all in good fun and they could laugh it off. But it just shows, you never know when one of those pesky main daters might decide to throw the limelight your way.
Like Sunil here. Sunil had a moment to himself and took the opportunity to grill his neighbouring table on what they thought of his date.

But some daters are less fond of sharing drinks. Brian and Sarah here had a “better” idea.

Okay. So the night is winding down. Your date’s going well. You’re hitting it off and enjoying a nice drink with your dessert. Suddenly, you hear something over your right shoulder. It’s him again.
Don’t worry. He’s not trying to pinch any dates this time. It’s just a congratulatory glass clink to say “well done”... As you do.
